Well, at least for myself, it’s a number of things. First of all, there’s quality. The hardware’s usually stable and well-built, whilst the combination of parts is carefully well-chose. Provides for optimal usage, methinks. Also, Mac OS X is just a quality built OS. It rarely displays problems, never (as far as i’ve used it) actually “crashed”, and handles programs that crash occasionally (like Camino, which is the browser i use and is under development) in a clever manner, so it never gets into problems itself. How different from Windows XP that is, as far as my experience with that goes.
Secondly it has the option of running more than one OS. Ofcourse, this isn’t that unusual, but in this case it fully supports a dual-boot system with for instance both XP and OS X, like my own setup has. Try running OS X on your regular PC system and a highway of disaster awaits you. This function is built-in within Leopard, and setting it up takes no more than a couple of minutes. Quality, i tell you.
Finally, and most controversially, it’s an estethic choice. Mac, Apple… it’s a brand. It’s a symbol. And as much as it despises me usually, it’s a brand i like, i can even “identify” with. Even the thought of me typing that revolts me, but it’s true. Every regular PC i see nowadays, as pumped-up and “pimped” as they can be, is to me no competition against the constant beauty of my own iMac. In other words, “they just fail”. It goes as far as, for instance, my recently broken down iPod Nano (1st gen.) which has worked perfectly and at one point just died. I will buy me another one, it has never crossed my mind that i could by a different brand of mp3-player.

Any downsides then? Ofcourse, nothing is without. For one, there’s compatibility. Nearly everything is available for Mac as well as it is for Windows/PC’s. But with nearly there’s the splinter group that isn’t. And whether i like it or not, that splinter group is quite often the software i’d like to use. There’s solutions, certainly. CrossOver and BootCamp make me run the, but it would be better if it worked without the workaround.
Also, there’s the (usual) main topic of discussion: prices. Yes, i agree, Macs are over-priced, varying from slightly to ridiculously. Is that a problem? Perhaps. Is that a problem for me, personally? Without any further discussion, it most certainly is not.
If i have to pay an extra €250 because it’s a Mac, i will. Heck, even if it’ll cost twice the usual, i’ll pay. Why? Because it’s a Mac.

I hear you think: “Are you dissing the entire world of PC’s, Windows, Linux and everything else non-Mac, you cunt?”. No, i most certainly am not. It’s just that i’ll never buy anything else but Mac.

Therefore i hereby propose a DragonBall Z live action movie. When? At least not for three years. But there will be one. And a good one. A solid one. One where the fights dominate over drama, one where everything will destroyed – just to be back again later on, when the earth has been saved. Who’s playing Goku? I don’t know yet, i’ll be back to that later.

At least a year later i’ll also expect Full Metal Alchemist live action. It has the future, you know.

Anyway, as minor an update as this might be, it still is one. I’m not too shabby as of late, albeit a minor insomnia plaguing me, and the usual after an incident like last week’s. But that’s nothing new. Something that is, perhaps, was the rather nice gig i attended this weekend. Houten Death Fest, 5 bands of which 2 were truly brilliant, and the rest was quite nice nonetheless.

Yet again, this isn’t a blog post. It’s a minor slip of the mind leaked upon the internet. Do i care? Not even remotely.

Now, i know you all expect this to be a rant about the death of love, the grand finale of affection. It might be. The hard facts are that i’m “single” again, as far as i wasn’t ofcourse. The course this has taken is one i shall not even consider explaining. I’ve never been fucked around like this before, and if it weren’t for this hanging in the air for about a week and a half – time in which i could prepare for an outcome alike this one – i would’ve been devastated. Am i not, now? Yes, but realizing it’s pointless. Half the job’s done, i tell you.

Somehow the thing that struck me most was the oddest of coincidences: before Victoria “dumped” me, i had only one relationship where one had fucked me over in quite alike a fashion. With my other relationships (and those aren’t too little in amount) i usually came out “well” after a break-up. Most of the time i was the indirect responsible one for it, even. But this other girl just set me aside, after a good couple of, dare i say it, “stormy” weeks of fun & brilliance. Through e-mail. It is since then that i started to look in a cynical manner to any kind of mass-communication.

And this girl, 5 years back, broke my heart. Her name? Oddly enough, it was Victoria.

Somehow the #tycoon irc channel’s statistics are quite equally interesting, albeit because it’s hilarious to see the random quotes (“lol zomg Jolteon’s fuxx0rr’d!!1!”), the operator actions (“is orudge just an insane op?” well, one might think so) and the various useless yet entertaining things it contains. Bad mouth hall of fame (or shame, if you’re one of them dumb christian Bond Tegen Het Vloeken bastards), the loudest user, the one that uses most /me tags… it’s all quality interesting for a statistophile like me. Still, i sense there’s some missing ones. Where are “user most likely to eat cheese” (based upon the amount of dairy-related products the user mentions), “user 1337 award” (the one with the most leetspeak, which ofcourse, would be Jolteon) and several others. It might be interesting enough for a question towards the #tycoon commanders, in the name of statistics.

Anyway, driven to be using statistics in everything i even remotely think might be of some interest, i stumbled upon the hatred of Aegir towards my frequent (metal)concert visitations. And albeit a fact that i dislike people that put up lists of bands they’ve seen live on the intarwebs (it’s highly emo, if not just plain fucking gay, to say the least), i will just put up this list this very one time. And now for something completely different: i’ll be buying me the latest OS X update, 10.5 “Leopard”, within a good 4 hours. I’m all prepared (as in, i have €129 on my bank account and a couple of claws eager to press in those mighty 4 digits of pseudo-wealth that my Postbank card represents), and even though i don’t “really really” have the money, i can’t be arsed. Why, i hear you think (well, not literally, and my sincerest of apologies to everyone that immediately had the words “Superman” and “kryptonite” flashing in large yet imaginairy neon lettering) are you buying it anyway? Well, simpy because it’s bloody brilliant. It makes the ever so respectably small lobster flute throb like a seagull trapped under a stack of cat-catching-mice wallpaper rolls.

This event seems to have an effect on my daily routine. Well, that and the fact that i was forced to leave my bed at the ghastly hour that is 8 in the morning, for the sole reason of my parents being the people that renew their bathroom at ghastly hours like 8 in the morning. Your parents, you say? Surely they must be lobsters. Well, surely they are not. I must be adopted from the nearby restaurant, after just looking far too cute and cuddly to eat.

Anyhoo, enough, of this nonsense. Before i go all fluttering about. My daily routine is still pretty much fucked, even though i left the ghastly bathroom renewing hours mansion to reside at my very own LobsterCave in Hilversum. Perhaps because i have the feeling that my general interest of lobster love, the lobster princess, is becoming less and less that very lobster princess i surely need to guide me, for i otherwise end up in some kind of mental institution, yelling something about grated cheeses and salsa dips to yet another rerun of “50 Years of As The World Turns”. But as this is an official blog, and not some emo LiveJournal gnarly abomination made darkly-painted flesh, i will now shut up upon that very matter.
